Flooding and mudslides caused by Hurricane Agatha left at least 9 people dead in Mexico’s southern state of Oaxaca, officials said Wednesday. Agatha made landfall Monday afternoon as a Category 2 hurricane, hitting the small fishing villages and beach resorts on the Oaxaca coast. Twitter user @jlplatafoto shared a video of the destruction in Barra de Copalita, two days after the storm had passed. Residents can be seen trudging through the deep mud of the villages dirt roads. Gov. Alejando Murat said Tuesday that rivers overflowed their banks, sweeping some victims away, while landslides buried other victims in mud.
