Video shows a column of black smoke and flames rising next to a Geneva Airport runway as a plane comes in for a landing on May 20.
Switzerlands second-busiest airport sits next to the FrenchSwiss border, and the video was shot from Ferney-Voltaire, across the border in France.
Airport spokesman Ignace Jeannerat said the fire was at the site of a new reception center for asylum seekers, under construction just outside the airport perimeter. Landings at the airport have been temporarily suspended, and incoming flights were diverted or delayed.
